Canteen Initiative for Women Empowerment

Nature9 Foundation Establishes SHG-Run Canteen to Promote Self-Reliance (2022)

In 2022, Nature9 Foundation took a transformative step toward strengthening women’s empowerment by establishing a community canteen operated by a Self Help Group (SHG). This initiative became a reality with the generous support of the Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula, who allocated land for the project, recognizing the Foundation’s commitment to uplifting women through meaningful livelihood opportunities.

Creating Sustainable Livelihoods for Women

The canteen initiative was designed to provide women—especially those from economically weaker backgrounds—with a stable and dignified source of income. By enabling them to manage and run the canteen independently, the project aims to:

  • Encourage financial independence
  • Support entrepreneurial skills
  • Build confidence and leadership abilities
  • Strengthen community-based self-reliance
  • Offer a sustainable income model through SHG collaboration

Through this platform, the Self Help Group members gained an opportunity to prepare, manage, and sell fresh and affordable meals while learning valuable business and operational skills.

A Model of Collaboration and Social Impact

The establishment of this canteen highlights the power of collaboration between government support and community-driven organizations. The Deputy Commissioner’s decision to provide land laid the foundation for a project that continues to uplift multiple families and empower women to take charge of their economic future.

Promoting Self-Reliance and Confidence

By participating in this initiative, women have not only earned a livelihood but also discovered new confidence in their abilities to manage finances, serve customers, and run a business with efficiency and pride. This initiative continues to inspire more women to join Self Help Groups and explore similar opportunities for growth.

A Step Toward Inclusive Development

Nature9 Foundation’s canteen initiative stands as a testament to its vision of inclusive development, where women are given both the space and the opportunity to thrive. The success of the 2022 canteen project encourages the Foundation to continue launching programs that nurture self-reliance, build skills, and promote long-term social and economic empowerment.
